Resveratrol and Prostate Cancer

Prostrate cancer is the most common cancer type in men typically from the age 50 onwards. There's a good chance that people die without ever been diagnosed with prostrate cancer because it seldom shows any symptom and death could be caused by other illness or condition unrelated to it such as a heart attack,  pneumonia or just old age.

Because prostrate cancer can exhibit no symptoms, they can often be detected by with elevated PSA

(Prostrate Specific Antigen) reading in a regular medical check-up. There’s also benign prostatic

hypertrophy which is not life threatening but can exhibit the same symptoms like uncontrolled urination especially at night, painful urination, difficulty in starting and maintaining a urine stream or blood in the urine.

Prostate Cancer Treatment using Resveratrol

Resveratrol found in red wines, grape skins, peanuts and berries have achieve near-iconic popularity as a miracle drug of the 21st century. It’s health-promoting, anti-aging and therapeutic benefits, not to mention its calorie reducing and fat dissolving properties, are well-researched and documented.

One remarkable benefit is its anti-carcinogenic qualities that are known to cause cell apoptosis or self destruction while leaving healthy cells untouched. Unfortunately, its efficacy in treating or preventing the onset of prostrate cancer is conflicting to say the least.

While most researches affirm many of its anti-cancer properties, they are mostly made on cultured cancer cells in vitro with little or no tests performed on human patients so far. The potential is unmistakable, but until repeated tests on human confirm its efficacies on each type of cancer and the concentrations needed for each, Resveratrol remains as a food supplement that users can only hope for will work on their health as promised.

The best recommendation is to give Resveratrol a try. So far, there have been no reported unwanted side effects other than the use of high doses of the substance. But most supplements carry this caution and it is plain that it won’t hurt to try. Weighing the pros and cons, patients suffering from prostrate cancer have really nothing to lose.
