Resveratrol and Menopause

Menopausal symptoms have never been easy for women. Most face real risk of long term diseases linked with taking hormone replacements (HRT) or estrogen therapy. And while there are pharmaceutical soya-derived treatments out there like genistein, daidzein and glystein, their effectiveness is not always assured.

But thanks to recent research findings, there’s hope that women have another option that is by far the best and most natural treatment for menopause – Resveratrol.

Resveratrol Eases Menopause Symptoms

You may already have heard or read about the amazing health promises of the uniquely versatile red wine phytochemical compound Resveratrol that solved the French Paradox.

There’s no dearth of research findings that extol its amazing health benefits against many life-threatening diseases to make it a wonder drug. Food supplements abound containing Resveratrol. With the many therapeutic promises of the substance, it is not surprising that many have started to wonder if Resveratrol also provided therapeutic effects to even relieve the common symptoms associated with menopause.

The light at the end of the tunnel, as it were, comes from Resveratrol’s ability to increase production of certain enzymes that inhibit the growth of estrogen metabolites that lead to estrogen-dependent cancers like breast, uterine and ovarian cancers.

What does that do with menopause, you may ask. It is known fact that HRT which is the most effective treatment of menopause systems doubles a woman’s risk of getting estrogen-induced breast cancer.

Resveratrol’s most dominant estrogen action that inhibits tumorous cell growth has the promise and the potential to make it a better alternative hormone replacement therapy. Resveratrol, afterall, is a phytoestrogen with weak estrogen-like action among its properties.

But it remains to be confirmed in further research tests with a focus on treating menopause symptoms to determine the precise Resveratrol action and the concentration needed for the purpose. For now, its efficacy in treating menopause problems remains at best controversial.
