Resveratrol and Infertility

Few, if any, herbal extract have achieved near-iconic celebrity status as the lowly red wine extract Resveratrol that’s also found in about 70 plan species with the Muscadine red grape skin as having the most abundant.

With promised therapeutic benefits starting with its polyphenolic anti-aging properties to its anti carcinogenic promises independently confirmed in countless scientific researches, Resveratrol now figures in many food supplements taking advantage of its wide popularity.

First discovered in the early 40s, it wasn’t until 1992 when the substance was found in red wines did it became the answer to the French paradox, accounting for the healthier longer  lives of the French peoples despite consuming the same high fat diet that Americans do.

It was all about the red wines in their meals everyday. Now, with all the health and medicinal properties of the substance, the next question in the minds of many is whether Resveratrol also has reproductive fertility benefits. It certainly wouldn’t be surprising if it did.

Obesity and Infertility

Unfortunately, there are little or no research studies to competently assess Resveratrol’s fertility benefits or infertility cures to either sex. But that doesn’t mean there’s no promise even from its ancillary benefits. One of this is Resveratrol’s positive action on obesity which commonly leads to fertility problems.

It is a known fact that obesity can cause any number of health conditions and diseases, life-threatening or not, including diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and infertility. Obesity has been a linked with infertility in both man and women. And Resveratrol shops promise in treating the condition.

Research studies have shown that Resveratrol reduces fat cells in lab rats and according to a recent study by researchers at the University of Ulm in Germany, Resveratrol has the potential to prevent both adult and adolescent obesity. This finding comes on top of earlier studies that showed Resveratrol’s ability to treat obesity-related health ailments like diabetes, arterial and cardiovascular diseases. To the extent that Resveratrol can combat obesity, it has the potential to treat infertility as well.
