Resveratrol and Hot Flashes

If you’ve had nights with hot flashes or night sweats, you could be suffering from hormonal shifts considered as symptom of menopause. You, of course, have to be a woman in her 40s to experience that.

The most common and effective treatment of most-menopausal discomforts is through HRT, or hormone replacement therapy. There are other treatment regimens like selective estrogen receptor modulation (SERMs) which are done by some drugs that act as agonists or antagonists on estrogen receptors. A diet complete with phytoestrogen supplements are recommended which include ginseng extracts and flaxseed.

Men are not necessarily immune to hot flashes if they get low on testosterone. Men who underwent castration and those diagnosed with prostrate cancer and taking hormone therapy with antiandrogens can also have hot flashes.

Resveratrol Relieves Menopause Discomforts

Resveratrol is a phytoestrogen that have demonstrated it ability to increase production of certain enzymes that inhibit the growth of estrogen metabolites that are known to cause estrogen-bound cancers like uterine, ovarian and breast cancers.

It’s also a known fact that Hormone Replacement Therapy increases the risk of a woman getting estrogen-induced breast cancer. Resveratrol inhibiting action on estrogen and its phytoestrogenic properties make it a better alternative to relived menopause-related disorders such as hot flashes.

Resveratrol taken in conjunction with other herbal extracts like Pomegranate are also preferred natural treatment for menopause symptoms. Just consult with your doctor if your health condition and other medication do not pause any risk of complication when electing to use alternative treatment strategies.

Resveratrol found in Knotweed rhizomes and grape skins as well as red wines carry a lot of promise in delivering health benefits. The right dosage and concentration, however, have not been fully tested on humans to get the promised benefits. Most supplements out there contain more Resveratrol compound than in a dozen bottles of red wines. It would still be wise to check with your doctor on the dosage that will work for your specific condition.
